Find out what basques are all about with our guide: Basque – Definition & Guide. Discover what makes corsets unique in comparison: Corsets – Definition & Guide. Learn about the specific features that make a piece of lingerie a bustier: Bustiers – Definition & Guide.

Corsets

  • Corsets: The corset is designed to give you that our glass look by pushing inward on your side is just above your hips and pushing up your boobs. Something just named corset will likely cover your boobs whereas an underbust corset as the name already implies sits under your bust underneath your boobs.

  • Corsets are also defined by having vertical bones in them usually made of some sort of metal or plastic which assists the corset in pushing your sides inwards and upwards to your breasts.

  • Corsets will also have tie-up lacing at the rear which makes corsets adjustable in how tight they squeeze and how well they fit.

  • Corsets will usually come without any shoulder straps but some do come with shoulder straps. So if you see one with or without shoulder straps that’s quite normal and they are both still called corsets.

Basques

  • Basques: With a similar look to corsets, they are designed to fit tightly around your body and provide support with cups for your breasts. These often come with shoulder straps but can also come without. They will also more often than not come with stocking suspender straps to easily hold up your stockings or just for the sexy looks.

  • Basques also come with vertical bones which are usually made from plastic to support your waistline. The difference is that they usually will be somewhat longer than a corset reaching over the top of your hips providing a more robust feel.

  • They are also fast and at the back however the difference between basques and corsets is that basques usually come with eye and hook fastenings whereas corsets will more often come with laces to tie-up.

Bustiers

  • Bustiers: As the name already give away. Are designed and geared towards attenuating a woman’s breast more than the waist. They will sit higher above your hips and will usually lead from your bust into the waist. They are more like a long line strapless bra.

  • Bustiers can also like the other two feature vertical bones for waistline support but more often will come soft with no bones.

  • Bustiers also fasten at the back mostly with hook and eye clasps just like basques.

Summary

So that’s really all that there is to it. We hope that this quick guide helps you choose the right piece of lingerie that you are truly after so that you can look your best in your sexy new bustier, basque or corset.
